Rossendale Flood Fayre sponsored by Sagar Insurances
The Rossendale Flood Fayre took place at St Mary’s Chambers, Rawtenstall on 28th June 2017. The event was organised by The Rawtenstall Flood Forum and Sagar Insurances were proud to sponsor and support the event for the local community.
The Fayre was opened by Alyson Barnes, Leader of Rossendale Borough Council who took the opportunity to announce in her speech that Councillor Janice Johnson has been appointed Flood Champion for the area.
Flood Risk in the Rossendale Valley
It is estimated that across the 30,000+ properties in Rossendale approximately 6,500 are at risk from flooding from rivers, surface water, drains or reservoirs. About 1,000 of these properties are in Rawtenstall.
The idea of the event was to bring together a variety of agencies and service suppliers who would be able to answer flood related questions from residents and business owners who had concerns about flooding in the Rossendale valley.
The event was attended by members of the community and many services who are often called upon when flooding takes place. These included Lancashire Fire and Rescue, Lancashire Police, Lancashire County Council, Rossendale Borough Council, The Environment Agency, Moors for the Future, United Utilities, Flood Re, Rawtenstall Civic Trust, The National Flood Forum, The Flood Company, ISS Rainbow, The UK Flood Defence Alliance and Stone Oak Ltd.
Flood Event Success
The Fayre was extremely well attended throughout the day and early evening and the feedback has suggested everyone took something positive away with them.
The day was perfectly summed up by Kathy Fishwick, Chair of Rossendale Civic Trust: “Today was more than just about flooding it was about bringing the local community together. Thank you”.
